Ok. You need to find a USB drive with a external power adapter. There may not be enough power on the DNR to power a external USB drive of this size. Usually 500Gb or less drives shouldn't be a problem. However 1Tb and bigger drives, they usually need external power adapters to help on the power. I presume this maybe the issue here.
